Preprimary course

Preprimary Course » (3 – 6 years)

The child who enters the Montessori Preprimary school at 2 ½ years spends three years developing certain skills and capacities within himself. The program has a clearly defined set of activities to help him develop, and they generally produce specific learning outcomes. These outcomes prepare the child to meet his needs for learning when he enters the Primary class.

Knowledge of the Preprimary helps the adult in the primary class understand where the child comes from.

Preprimary Course » (3 – 6 years)

In the second part of his development, the child consolidates whatever he has learnt earlier and develops consciousness of the world around him. The Preprimary training enables our trainees to assist this developmental process most effectively through a judicious balance of theory and psychology, presentations and supervised practice sessions with the Montessori apparatus.

Course content: • Theory and Psychology
• Exercises of Practical Life (EPL)
• Sensorial Activities
• Language
• Mathematics

Theory: Lectures and seminars on Montessori child psychology pertaining to the child of Preprimary and primary age, relevant current research in the field of educational psychology, and Montessori educational theory form a part of this section.

Exercises of Practical Life: Exercises of Practical Life are familiar activities that are performed at home like sweeping, washing, polishing etc. By learning to present them, the trainee is able to help the child to unite his physical and mental powers and refine his motor coordination.

Sensorial Activities: Montessori Sensorial materials isolate dimensions, colors, shapes, sounds, textures etc. The trainee learns to present them effectively, bringing about, among other things, sensitivity to these stimuli in the child, making the world a richer place for him.

Language: Montessori Language program consists of analyzing – of words into sounds and of sentences into words. An indirect consequence of this work is writing and reading, concept of grammar and syntax in sentences. The trainees are given many activities to promote these concepts in their students.

Mathematics: Montessori mathematical materials are concrete representations of abstract concepts. The trainees learn to utilise them to introduce many concepts such as the decimal system, the four basic operations, geometrical forms and their relations, which could not be given otherwise.

Cultural Areas: The trainees are exposed to methods of giving history through stories of the past, physical and political geography of the World, nomenclature around plant and animal life, etc.
